" Le Lion de Belfort "

Fortement accrochée au château de Belfort, je vous propose de découvrir la plus grande statue de pierre française, sculptée dans le plus petit département de l'hexagone.
Le fier gardien de la Cité est le symbole de la Liberté et de la Résistance héroïque des troupes belfortaines menées par le colonel Denfert-Rochereau, faisant face à l'armée prussiennedurant le siège de 1870-1871. Le Lion de Belfort doit son existence à Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, illustre sculpteur à l'origine de la Statue de la Liberté.
Le colosse est constitué de blocs de grès rose assemblés contre la falaise de la Citadelle, il fait aujourd'hui partie intégrante de l'identité du département.
Depuis 1880, il veille sur les habitants, majestueux avec ses 11 mètres de haut et 22 mètres de long. A la nuit tombée, le Lion se pare de lumières. Une vision magique dans le ciel belfortain…

Ouvert tous les jours : 10h-12h30 et 14h-18h

2- Sur 2ème panneau de la terrasse, Bartholdi a écrit une lettre:
A qui est-elle destinée ? A quelle date a-t-elle été écrite ?

Strongly hung on the castle in Belfort, I invite you to discover the largest French stone statue, sculpted in the smallest department of France.
The proud guard of the City is the symbol of the Freedom and the heroic Resistance of the belfortaines troops led by colonel Denfert-Rochereau, facing the Prussian army during the siege of 1870-1871. The Lion of Belfort owes its existence to Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, celebrated sculptor at the origin of the Statue of Liberty.
The Colossus is erected by blocks of pink sandstone assembled against the cliff of the Citadel and now, it is an integral part of the identity of the department.
Since 1880, it watches over the inhabitants, majestic with its 11 meters high and 22 meters long. After dark, the Lion adorns with lights. A magical vision in the Belfort sky…
To log this cache as "Found it" , you must imperatively go to the coordinates of the Virtual Cache: (on the terrace of the Lion)
Opening hours: daily, from 10am to 12.30pm and 2pm to 6pm
Admission: a modest amount of 1€
