Geocache Description:

A Long, Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away…

Cooks and entrepreneurs were coming up with a variety of delights to appease the food-consuming public.  It was a period of war...for the appetites of many folks from across the area. During the battle, many of the cooks had utilized a weapon of mass consumption known as the Hot Dog...and it was good.

Many folks enjoyed the Hot Dog but there was something missing. Spies managed to steal secret plans for the ultimate weapon that was thought to satisfy the public in their eating habits around Metro Detroit. Recipes were created, and modified, and changed some more. Various outlets had their own take on the delicacy and aimed to serve the hot-dog eating public.

And so was born: CONEY WARS.

Pursued by many customers of these fine establishments the battle continues to this day as people race to get their favorite Coneys from all over the world...

Will the Coney Wars ever end? Most folks would say... the battle continues...

...and from what we can tell will continue for many years to come.

If Detroit had an official food, it would be the coney: a natural-casing beef or pork sausage or beef frank on a steamed bun, topped with mild, beanless, Greek-style chili, chopped white onions and yellow mustard.

The Coney Island, also known as "the Coney Dog” or Coney” for short is, in fact, rooted in Michigan history despite the reference to a New York location. There are many places around that serve up heaping piles of these delicious dogs all day long and is a favorite with the daytime and late-night crowd. It has also been revealed that there are many variations of the coney including coney tacos, coney pizzas, and coney omelets.

There are at least 500 Coney Island Restaurants across Metro Detroit to serve the internationally-famous
"Coney Island" variety of food.

There is usually a HIGH amount of Muggle Traffic here 24/7.

PLEASE be stealthy when retrieving and re-hiding.

Thanks! :)
