This Portable Engine
was produced by Marshall, Sons & Co. at the Britannia Iron
Works, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire in England.
The company was founded
in 1848 and ran until 1947, before eventually being taken over.
They produced Traction Engines, Steam Rollers, Portable Engines and
agricultural machinery, before moving into internal combustion
tractors and later, Bristol biplanes.
This engine was most
likely used in the timber industry around the Williamston area and
would require quite a bit of restoration work, as can be seen by
looking under the fire box.
