Geocache Description:

Galston is a suburb of northern Sydney. Galston is located 36 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Hornsby Shire. It is also the home town of Imgettingannoyed

Galston was originally part of the Parish of North Colah, later known as Upper Dural. It wasn’t until a new school was built in 1886 that a new name was sought for the town. A Scottish man by the name of Alexander Hutchinson suggested the name of Galston, after the village he was born which is located in East Ayrshire, Scotland.

In the early days Galston was a large citrus fruit growing area with the biggest farms being owned by the Waddell and Fagan families.

Evidence of this can still be seen with Waddell cottage (located in the grounds of Galston High School) and Netherby Homestead (located in Fagan Park) still standing today.

Whilst many of the orchards have long since been replaced with houses, there still are many smaller farms on the edges of the township.
These days the town houses 2 schools (both primary and secondary), an aquatic centre, a volunteer fire brigade, a small local shopping village, which includes some restaurants and cafés, and a number of Parks.

The population of Galston is just over 1300 people (as at the 2006 census)
