Geocache Description:

21 April 2019, 11:30 - 12:00

On the steps of the Old Parliament House, King George Terrace, Canberra, it's a BILL!

It's a DOUBLE BILL actually!

Here's the FIRST BILL: a bit of History:

When Australia became a Commonwealth way back in 1901, there was no National Capital and no Canberra. The first Parliaments sat in Melbourne until 1927, even though the ACT as we now know it, began its formation around 1913.

Provisional Parliament House, as it was known, became the seat of the Parliament of Australia from 1927 to 1988, when the Commonwealth Parliament transferred to the new Parliament House on Capital Hill, just around the corner as they say.

You can read about this beautiful building on the Wiki pages. It's a good read.

But if you want to re-live the glory days of this building, why not make a bit of time an go inside and visit the Museum of Australian Democracy: it's a living museum of social and political history, located in this nationally listed heritage building. Here, in Parkes, Canberra.

This is achieved this by:

  • bringing alive the importance of Parliament in the lives of Australians;
  • interpreting, conserving and presenting the building and our collections;
  • providing entertaining and educational public programs; and
  • providing a range of other services that enhance the visitor experience.

You can visit this link: What's On, to discover a range of innovative exhibitions, tours and public programs that challenge and inspire. There are also special activities and spaces for children to explore.

So maybe take a bit of time away from your busy geocaching schedule, and poke your head inside.

Here is the SECOND BILL.

In just under six months, the second Annual Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster will happen. Now would be a good time for you to discover what QOGM is all about.

So, at the conclusion of the Parliament House Grand Car Flag Parade (which commences at 10.00 am), park your cars nearby (free parking is available in the nearby streets, too), and gather on the steps of Old Parliament House at 11.30am where a Geocaching Bill will be introduced to the Geocaching Parliament. Members will speak toward the Bill, and there will be a Question Time available a the end of the Session.

As optional extras, the café nearby will be open for those who would like a morning coffee fix in between events, and the adjacent restaurant will be open after the BILL Event for anyone wishing to join us for Lunch before continuing the day's geocaching activities.

Our "debate" might not be as classy as this picture of the Senate in the Old Parliament House, but hopefully it will be a bit of fun. You can see HEAPS on old pictures of this magnificent building on THESE PAGES.
