Cable Creek was homesteaded in 1890 by John W. Cable and his son William. John had served in the army during the Mexican-American War and made a name for himself by single-handedly securing the surrender of the cathedral at the Battle of Monterrey. For his bravery that day, he was given the highest award the military can bestow, a Medal of Honor. John Cable was also a close personal friend of Senator Henry Clay, and after his service in the military, went on to become the Inspector General of Pennsylvania. In his later years, John decided to follow his son out West. They chose to settle 3 miles south of the small town of Spokane Bridge (where the Rockin' B Ranch stands today), on what was formerly part of the Coeur d'Alene Indian Reservation. In 1901 he was awarded the deed to his land by the U.S. Government. They built a small homestead cabin on what is now a neighboring parcel. One year later, John Cable died. William Cable and his wife Martha inherited the land and built the stately farmhouse that currently stands at Cable Creek. The younger Cable also had a distinguished record of military service. He served under General Blunt during part of the Civil War and records indicate that he fought for 9 days without food (except 4 hardtack) to cover the retreat of General Banks at the Battle of Jenkins Ferry. After the war, William Cable was active in politics, and served as a Kootenai County Commissioner in 1895. William and Martha raised 4 children on this land, and one of their great-granddaughters still lives in North Idaho today. The original homestead is still being farmed today.
While wandering through the night, there are many sound distractions coming from wind, trees, dogs, coyotes and others.
Focus on what you can see, and you won't be led wrong. If you can't see anymore, look around. And if you see something looking back at you, look harder. Unless it blinks, then do what you think best.
During this cache you will have to follow markers and find two waypoints plus a final.
