EN: I’m not quite sure whether younger generations know who Bruce Lee exactly was. One of the most influential martial artists, actor, and later martial arts instructor, he was a true pop icon of 20th century.
In the 70’s and 80’s, when the first martial arts movies began to arrive in the cinemas in Yugoslavia, he was a legend. I remember that we as kids watched (several times) each and every one of Bruce Lee movies that arrived to the cinema, the quality of which (both technical and acting part) by today standards is somehow ridiculous. “Enter the Dragon” was a culmination of his career. I admit, I was one of many (many? All of them!) kids who imitated the moves from this movie while “fighting” with my friends.
During his short life, he filmed more than 30 movies, and made kung-fu world famous. He died in 1973 from cerebral edema at the age of 32, and his death remains a controversy and a mystery until today. His son Brandon, martial artist and an actor like his father, also died in a freak accident during the shooting of a movie “The Crow”, at the age of 28.
This pump was painted as a homage to a great actor, and an idol to a whole generation. The phrase on the pump is taken from a longer Bruce Lee quote: “You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Be water my friend.”

70-ih i 80-ih godina, kad su prvi borilački filmovi počeli dolaziti u jugoslavenska kina, bio je legenda. Sjećam se da smo kao djeca gledali (i to po nekoliko puta) svaki Bruce Lee-jev film koji je stigao u kino, čija je kvaliteta (tehnička, kao i glumačka) za današnje standard pomalo smiješna. “U zmajevom gnijezdu” je bila kulminacija njegove karijere. Priznajem, i ja sam bio jedan od klinaca koji je imitirao pokrete iz ovog filma prilikom “borbi” s prijateljima.
Tijekom svog kratkog života, snimio je više od 30 filmova, i napravio kung-fu svjetski poznatim. Umro je 1973. godine od cerebralnog edema u 32. godini života, a njegova smrt je potakla mnoge teorije zavjere koje sugeriraju kako njegova smrt nije bila prirodna. Njegov sin Brandon, majstor borilačkih vještina i glumac poput oca, je isto umro u čudnim okolnostima prilikom snimanja filma “Vrana” (“The Crow”), u 28. godini.
