Congratulations to tandemstoker for FTF. Thanks for grabbing that big bag of trash as well.

This is the site of the Houlton, Maine Soap Box Derby Hill. The Harbison Family was instrumental in the organization and construction of the hill which is a replica of the world famous hill in Akron, Ohio. An estimated $250,000 was raised and donated along with "in kind" services to make this hill a reality. Using basic survey methods, my outdoor education class along with a calculus class figured that an estimated 12,650 cubic yards of material were hauled in to create this hill. That is approximately 1,050 dump truck loads. There was a lot of construction going on in the area at the time, and much of the hill was made with old road base.

For four years, this race site was the largest soap box derby race in the world. It is currently the only soap box derby race site in the state of Maine.
