Litovelská brána byla soucástí pevnostního systému olomoucké pevnosti spolu s dalšími, dnes už vetšinou nedochovanými, mestskými branami napr. Rohelskou (pozdeji Františkovou), Blažejskou, Strední, Dolní, Hradskou nebo Novou.
Puvodne stála na konci Riegrovy ulice smerem k námestí Národních hrdinu. V letech 1644 až 1645 byla znicena, následne však byla obnovena. Za vlády Marie Terezie sloužila už pouze jako výpad. Se zrušením olomoucké pevnosti na konci 19. století došlo v roce 1880 i ke zrušení Litovelského výpadu. Zbytky brány byly kolem roku 1896 preneseny na místo, kde se nachází dodnes, tedy ke vstupu do Cechových sadu. Sousoší orlice, které zdobí vrchol této památky, puvodne patrilo na Rohelskou (Františkovu) bránu, stojící kdysi v dnešní Vodární ulici.
V cervenci 2004 probehly restaurátorské práce; zdivo brány se totiž zvolna rozpadalo a rímse nesoucí orlice hrozilo zrícení. Tomu bylo naštestí zabráneno.
Litovelská brána je kulturní památkou zapsanou v seznamu kulturních nemovitých památek CR.

The Litovel Gate (whose name indicates that it led in the direction of the town of Litovel) was part of the Olomouc fortification together with other city gates, which, for the most part, did not survive to this day.
Originally standing at the end of the Riegrova street, it was destroyed in 1644-1645 but soon restored. Under the rule of Maria Theresa the gate served only as a sallyport. The liquidation of the Olomouc fort in the late 1880’s put an end to the existence of the Litovel sallyport. Around 1896, the remains of the gate were transferred to its present place, i.e. the entrance to the Cech Park. The sculpture of eagle on the top of the gate was originally part of the Rohle Gate that once stood in the present Vodární street.
In July 2004, the gate underwent restoration as its masonry was falling apart and the sculpture of eagle almost fell down. Fortunately, this was prevented.
The Litovel Gate is a protected national monument registered in the List of Czech Cultural Immovable Monuments.
