Geocache Description:

This cache is located on the alternative track/route from Newlands to Ngauranga. This track is a gravel track that climbs to 160m above sea level (at Newlands end) from approx. sea level (at Ngauranga) at a grade of 10%

To get to the track, take the shared driveway of 23 Wakely street which then turns into the gravel track.

The track is about 1.5km long

Newlands was formed in the 1840-1841 ballots of land by The New Zealand company, it was then known as Pukehuia and was sold off in 100 acre blocks.

The origin of the name Newlands is attributed to several sources. One suggestion is that it was named for Thomas Newland, who settled in Wellington in 1875.It may also simply have been the ‘New Land’ adjacent to Johnsonville.

Large-scale subdivision of Newlands did not come until the late 1950s. In the following decades the suburb became known as the ‘first home owners’ suburb’ as hundreds of young couples built houses in the area.

This cache is a camo 200mL sistema hidden near the start of the track.

Please re-hide as you found it.
