A Arte Nova ou Art Nouveau (em francês) é um estilo de arquitetura e de artes decorativas que emergiu na Europa durante a viragem do século XIX para o XX impulsionado pela aspiração à modernidade, à beleza e a um ideal estético oferecido pelos novos materiais e tecnologias que surgiram nesse tempo.
Considerada uma “arte bela com proporção, caracter e harmonia” (Adães Bermudes), caracteriza-se pelas suas formas orgânicas da natureza, pelo trabalho artesanal, extremo zelo com todos os detalhes e pelo uso combinado de ferro forjado, vidro, pedra, madeira e azulejos.
Em Aveiro surgiu em 1904 com uma interpretação muito própria, concentrada nos aspetos decorativos das fachadas. O uso de azulejos frequentemente com cores exuberantes é uma das características que mais sobressai e que dá uma vida particular à cidade.
Francisco Augusto da Silva Rocha é o arquiteto mais influente na difusão da Arte Nova em Aveiro, assinando uma parte considerável das casas construídas naquelas décadas iniciais do século XX. Ernesto Korrodi, Jaime Inácio dos Santos e José de Pinho são outros dos nomes importantes na difusão da Arte Nova em Aveiro.
A expressão de Aveiro no movimento Arte Nova é tal que a cidade foi incluída no "Réseau Art Nouveau", grupo de 20 cidades no mundo.

The Arte Nova or Art Nouveau (in French) is a style of architecture and decorative arts that emerged in Europe during the turn of the nineteenth to the twentieth driven by the aspiration to modernity, beauty and an aesthetic ideal and offered by new materials and technologies that emerged at that time.
Considered a "beautiful art with proportion, character and harmony" (Adães Bermudes), it is characterized by its organic forms of nature, the crafts, extreme zeal with all the details and the combined use of wrought iron, glass, stone, wood and tiles.
In Aveiro it emerged in 1904 with a very own interpretation, focused on the decorative aspects of the façades. The use of tiles often with lush colors is one of the features that stands out most and that gives a particular life to the city.
Francisco Augusto da Silva Rocha is the most influential architect in the spread of Art Nouveau in Aveiro, signing a considerable part of the houses built in those early decades of the twentieth century. Ernesto Korrodi, Jaime Inácio dos Santos e José de Pinho are other important names in the spread of Art Nouveau in Aveiro.
The expression of Aveiro in the Art Nouveau movement is such that the city was included in the "Réseau Art Nouveau" group of 20 cities in the world.
