Geocache Description:

Welcome to Greenbelt National Park! Just twelve miles from Washington, D.C., Greenbelt Park is located in suburban Greenbelt, Maryland. The park features a 174 site campground, nine miles of trails, and three picnic areas. The campground is known for its affordability, National Park Service hospitality and peaceful surroundings.

The Maryland Geocaching Society has placed this caches in Greenbelt National Park to bring awareness to a gem right outside our nation's capital.

The Dogwood Trail is a lovely 1.4 mile loop with clear trails and lots to see. Remember this is a national park so leave no trace and practice Cache-In Trash-Out (CITO). The trails are fun to hike solo or with a family with little kids. These caches are 100% family friendly and in an easy to find place. You are looking for a clear lock and lock container with a green geocaching sticker on it.

The park is open from dawn to dusk each day of the year.

The Sweetgum unreserved Picnic Area gate is open by 8:00 a.m. and closes at dusk.

The campground is open every day and a campground host and U.S. Park Police are available.

Park Headquarters is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and closed on federal holidays.

The Park Ranger Station near the campground is open 8:00 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. seven days a week and is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.

This cache was placed with permission by the Greenbelt Park Rangers in conjunction with the 2012 Maryland Geocaching Society's CITO event.

There are many volunteer opportunities at Greenbelt National Park and the rangers could always use a hand.
