"Ay Caramba !!" Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: From the Northern Region Office, New Jersey State Parks Department:

Over a year ago New Jersey enacted a policy that all geocachers must obtain a permit to have their cache on State Park property. We have informed all geocaching host that this is their responsibility and have given them ample time to go about getting their permits. At this time, over a year later, there are still several caches that haven’t complied.

We ask that as the land managers for the attached properties we would like to have these illegal caches removed.

Based on the list provided by the state, I am forced to archive this listing. If you have a permit, get a permit or don't believe your cache is on state park/forest land, please contact me via email. Make sure you include the GC code.

If you don't plan to get a permit, please remove your geocache so it doesn't become geo-trash.

Geocache Description:

Named after the exclamation emitted by me on seeing the Mother-of-all geocaching hurdles! Located in Wawayanda State Park, this ? stage multicache is positioned close to pristine hiking trails in this well-maintained park. Regular hiking trails, hiking boots recommended. There is a choice in trails that may increase difficulty/terrain. NY/NJ Trail conference Map #21 recommended but not required.

This is a Mega Stage multi-cache (a.k.a Trailblocks!) that is positioned to take advantage of a good, invigorating hike for all to enjoy. Bring a picnic hamper to enjoy at numerous places along the hike.

There are two ways to tackle this cache.
I call them the El Dinero and the El Cheapo approaches.

The El Dinero Approach:

State Park entrance found off Moe Road at N41 11.760  W74 23.520  On the way to the parking found at N41 11.299  W74 25.512, there was a Toll Booth for daytrippers, $7 bucks  per car. It is unknown when it is in operation?? If you choose this approach, there is plentiful parking, and a great place for families, dogs, boating, fishing and many hiking trails.

I have placed trail maps in a ZipLock Bag a few hundred yards up the trail. Easy to find on the right of the trail before the bank slope at : N41 11.086  W74 25.706. hidden in a rock crack.

The El Cheapo Approach:

If the park DOES indeed charge $7 during the summer months, you can bypass that by using this approach.

Travel along Clinton Road and turn up Cherry Ridge Road at N41 09.253  W74 23.818.  You will find the Park maps at: N41 09.416 W74 24.875 Park your car in the cul-de-sac somewhere.

Continue to the first trailblock stage as listed above by hiking up Cherry Ridge Road to the trails.

Congratulations! - you saved a lousy seven bucks...!!!

The 'Ay Caramba !!' Challenge

Somewhere along the hike, you will be offered to take the
'Ay Caramba !!' Challenge.

This challenge involves an alternate route on one of the legs.
It is strenuous, spooky unmarked trail.
The Difficulty/Terrain Level increase by at least 1 Star on one section!!

You may refuse - no dishonor taken. Most will turn around
but it can be done. I did it. ... otherwise try the safer
El Bambino
challenge instead!!

 That's it!  Choose wisely!
