Devil's cave

Devil’s cave is a remarkable geomorphological and cultural monument.
Devil’s cave is located eight meters above the Gauja River - it now is inaccessible to tourists. Earlier to the cave led specially built wooden trail, but pedestrians endangered the caves ceilings (sandstone layer here just about 1 m thick), so the trail was liquidated, and in particular protection of cave in 1980th a new pedestrian bridge was built downstream from the cave.

In the past was much larger – after depletion of spring partly full of sandstone. Cave was an ancient pagan cult place.
