To complete this cache you will be required to do some relatively
difficult rock climbing. REMEMBER: COMING DOWN
IS USUALLY HARDER THAN GOING UP. No climbing equipment
was used in placing this cache, none is needed for it's retrieval.
PLEASE complete
Dane County Mountain Climbing before attempting this cache,
consider it a prerequisite.
Donald Rock and the other local rock formations are between 20
and 30,000 years old. This area was not affected by the glacier and
over time these outcrops were formed by many years of wind and
water erosion. Please respect them and this area so that others
now, and in the distant future will be able to enjoy these
wonderful landmarks.
This area used to be a part of the Donald Farm, and was donated
many years ago to the state for all to enjoy. It was at first a
wayside where families could stop and picnic and explore, however,
due to vandalism the wayside had to be closed. Since that time it
has seemingly become a lost treasure of Mount Vernon. (one of many)
A NO PARKING ANYTIME sign is still posted on the side of the road
so you will need to park at POP'S KNOLL (Donald Park) and walk over
to Town Hall Road and approach near the No Parking
sign.USE THE TRAIL INTO THE
WOODS
This is NOT a cache for beginners, and I highly recommend
bringing a friend to spot your climb and decent.
With all that said, the view from on top is FABULOUS!! You'll
love it.
