Pamätník holokaustu v Bardejove, susediaci so Židovským suburbiom, vznikol ako posvätné miesto pripomínajúce úctu voči jednotlivcom a rodinám tvoriacim prekvitajúcu židovskú komunitu, ktorá v dôsledku hrôzy holokaustu už viac neexistuje. Pamätník bol navrhnutý tak, aby slúžil na vzdelávanie a umožnil návštevníkom spoznať pravdivý osud bardejovskej židovskej komunity. Na 14 tabuliach v tvare náhrobných kameňov je zobrazených 3 298 mien obetí holokaustu z Bardejova a okolitých obcí. Jednotlivé rodiny sú zoradené abecedne v nasledujúcom poradí: otec, matka, deti alebo iní rodinní príslušníci, ktorí zahynuli. Menné zoznamy obetí sú prejavom úcty voči židovskej komunite, ktorú spoluvytvárali, a zároveň voči rodinám, ktorých boli súčasťou. Svetlá na vrcholoch 2 tabúľ symbolizujú večné svetlo v synagógach (hebr. Ner Tamid) a svetlo sviečky zapálenej na výročie úmrtia blízkeho (hebr. Ner Neshama). Štíty na 12 tabuliach zdobia mená kmeňov izraelského národa. V pamätníku sú 2 zo 14 tabúľ prázdne. Určené sú pre približne 900 mien, ktoré zatiaľ nemožno zaradiť medzi obete alebo preživších. Odhalenie pamätníka sa uskutočnilo 24. júna 2014 za účasti viac ako 450 obyvateľov Bardejova, hodnostárov a ďalších hostí z celého sveta.
Holocaust Memorial in Bardejov, adjacent to the Jewish suburb, was established as a sacred place resembling respect for individuals and families making up the flourishing Jewish community which, by the horrors of the Holocaust no longer exists. The memorial was designed to serve the education and lets visitors know the true fate Bardejov Jewish community. 14 on board in the shape of a tombstone is displayed 3,298 names of Holocaust victims from Bardejov and surrounding communities. Individual families are arranged alphabetically in the following order: father, mother, children or other family members who perished. Name lists of victims are an expression of respect for the Jewish community, which he co-created, and also to the families that were part of. Lights on the tops 2 plates symbolize the eternal light in the synagogues (Heb. Ner Tamid) and light candles lighted on the anniversary of the death of a close (Heb. Ner Neshama). Všeobecne sa predpokladá, že židia žijú s Dávidovou hviezdou už tisícročia. Faktom však je, že súčasťou ich domácností, synagóg a dekorácií je oveľa kratšie. Najtragickejším príkladom zneužitia šesťcípeho symbolu sú žlté hviezdy, ktoré na identifikáciu židov zaviedli nacisti. V dnešnom Izraeli sú Dávidove hviezdy takmer všade. Sú hlavným motívom štátnej vlajky, ľudia ich nosia ako prívesky na retiazkach, sú na mnohých rituálnych predmetoch. Izraelčania vás určite opravia, že magen David, ako sa tomuto symbolu hovorí po hebrejsky, nie je hviezda, ale štít. Pozostáva z dvoch rovnostranných trojuholníkov, ktoré sú nerozpojiteľné, čo má symbolizovať nerozdeliteľnosť židovského národa. Má toľko strán koľko bolo izraelských kmeňov. V Starom zákone sa Dávidova hviezda takmer nespomína, do raného stredoveku sa používala skôr ako dekoratívny objekt.
It is generally assumed that Jews have lived with the Star of David for thousands of years. Though in reality it’s a part of their households, synagogues and decorations for much shorter time. They were even forced to use it as their symbol in the past. The most tragic example of the abuse of the Star of David were the yellow stars, which have been introduced by the Nazis to identify the Jews. Nowadays are Stars of David almost everywhere in Israel. It’s the main theme of the national flag, people wear them as pendants and they are on many ritual objects. The Israelis would certainly correct you, that Magen David, as this symbol is spoken in Hebrew, is not a star but a shield. It consists of two equilateral triangles, which are inseparable, symbolizing the indivisibility of the Jewish nation. Amount of points is same as amount of the Israeli tribes. Star of David nearly isn’t mentioned in the Old Testament and from the early Middle Ages it was used rather as a decorative object.
