Geocache Description:

Have you ever stopped at Pooh Corner on the way to the coast? No?? Well now there's another reason besides donating a stuffed toy to Pooh's Cave. If you are driving down the mountain there is a small area where you can safely pull off the road to search. This is not an option if you are coming up the mountain - go to the top and do a safe turn around at the parking area.

During the 2nd World War, the 14th Battalion of the Volunteer Defence Corps manned a shelter at this spot. This was part of a plan to prevent the possibility of a Japanese invasion party, who might have landed at Batemans Bay, from advancing on Canberra. A tunnel was dug under the Kings Highway at this location and explosives placed inside. The entrance to the tunnel has now been sealed by concrete. The conspiracy theorists suggest that there may still be some explosives inside the tunnel...

The small shelter is where many people now donate their Pooh Bears to decorate the Cave. There is even a sign now, though when I was a child there were no stuffed toys or sign and the fun was in being the first to spot the cave. It has been known as Pooh Corner since at least the 1950s when the road was still a dirt track.

Be careful if there has been heavy rain or a few vehicles are already parked and consider leaving the cache for another time. Be aware that a lot of traffic will be passing by so use stealth and watch any children.

We had a lot of trouble with the gps at this spot so the clue is quite specific. It should be helpful if you are having trouble finding the cache. You are looking for a small camo bison tube - not always easy to spot.
