Salford Lake (aka) Aston Reservoir was originally built to provide drinking water. Not so now, and it has been used for recreational purposes but today remains just peaceful location for a number of duck, geese, and a number of Herons. You should see one of the Herons as you walk round. This area is "locked in" by the huge motorway network to the North and West, railway lines, and industrial premises to the East and South, and an absence of local residential housing. The main recreational activity is via a football center close by. Consequently, this area actually sees relatively few recreational visitors. This is a shame because it is a pleasant place albiet surrounded by a harsh environment. Finding this geo-cache is an opportunity to see some thriving wildlife and interseting surroundings in a relatively unfrequented part of Birmingham.
