Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches we put out on the Bighorn River. The names of the caches correspond to the names of the holes along the river from a time forty some years ago. It was a different place then. Each spot will get a little description as to how it came by its name now long forgotten. The caches are not loaded with swag but each has a fly and a 1937 Nickel. If you take the fly, please leave one in its place.

This is the first of the series.

Al Bishop was an avid fly fisherman.  He was also a Fish and Game Commissioner, state congressman, competitive pistol shooter and a good friend.  Al would drive down to the Afterbay and walk down to this hole.  He would stand in that hole all day long because he just knew it held a really monster trout.  He would fish with a lead core shooting head and a weighted streamer about three inches long - and he would dredge the bottom. Hour after hour.  Finally, one day the monster took the fly and came to his net.  It was a Brown of about eight and quarter pounds.
Back in the day when one could use bait on the upper 'Horn, our bait of choice were six inch suckers.   My buddy Tom got a heavy strike in this hole and all he reeled in was the head of his sucker with entrails hanging. Impressive.

If you are like Al and walk down to this hole the cache is available to you, too.  But, a boat works, also.
