Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the published co-ordinates. These will take you to a famous tomb. You will need to check the information below to find the cache. The cache is hidden a very short walk away and is smaller than a standard micro pot.

A former Anglican parish church in the hamlet of Eastwell, Kent, It has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II listed building. The ruins are a Scheduled Monument and a home for the pigeons (ignore the pigeons when trying to solve the clues, I have added this to see who actually reads descriptions). Did you go and look? In 1951 the roof of the nave collapsed, and the remaining shell of the church was demolished in 1956, leaving only the footings, the tower, and the 19th-century mortuary chapel. It is thought that the structure may have been weakened by the army tank manouveurs in the park combined with water soaked up by the churches chalk structure since the 40 acre lake was built next to it in the 1840's. It crumbled with what is described as a terrible roar by a witness who saw the collapse.
All that now remains are the tower and the wall of the south aisle, dating from the 15th century, and a mortuary chapel from the 19th century. The ruins of the tower and aisle wall are constructed in flint and plaster with stone quoins. The tower is supported by three-stage buttresses and it has a doorway with a string course above. In the tower is a two light Perpendicular window. The bell openings date from the 18th century and they also have two lights. The summit of the tower is battlemented. On the lower stage of the tower is a mutilated consecration cross in knapped flint. The blocked arch to the former nave has octagonal piers. In the aisle wall are two two-light windows. The chapel is constructed in chalk with a tiled roof. It has lancet windows and its interior is vaulted.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first at churchmicro@gmail.com so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.

There is also a Church Micro Stats & Information page found via the Bookmark list.
