1914 ~ 2014 100 years since the start of the Great War the haggi are taking you on a trail of war memorials
On the 11th November, 2008, the 90th Anniversary of the end of WW1 was commemorated at both Banff and Maduff War Memorials. However, no commemoration could be held at the Longmanhill War Memorial because it isn't there! The hall on which the memorial stood was sold, and the memorial was taken down. We believe the memorial is held in storeage somewhere, however we are concerned that we have seen no indication that it will be re-erected.
6th November 2010 - Longmanhill War Memorial re-sited.
The Longman Hill War Memorial which formerly stood on the north gable wall of the village hall needed re-erected. Today we happy to say see have seen the memorial in its new location which is part of a field at Fairburn Farm, Longmanhill, adjacent to the A98 Macduff-Fraserburgh road.
Good parking at the memorial where you need to gather information to work out where the final co ~ordinates are.
The final co ~ords are N57.AB.CDE W002.FG. HIJ a short drive/walk away
AB = The last two numbers of the first date
C = How many F/Sgts are there
D = Total number of names + 1
E = D + 1
F = Number of Pte's
G = Last number of the last date
H = Second number of the first date
I = Number of names - number of Pte's
J = I x 2
Surprisingly there are no names from World War I on this memorial, only World War II
