Geocache Description:

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

The first boats dedicated to take people from one side to the other in Bilbao river were moved by row, dating from 1757, with capacity for 7 people.

In 1893 the "Puente Colgante", today Bizkaia Bridge, was the first transporter bridge built in the world as a metallic structure and improved a lot the communication between the two coastal recreational locations, without stopping the navigation to one of the most active river ports in Europa. Destroyed during Spanish War in 1937, it was re-built in 1941.

On 13th July 2006, UNESCO's World Committee decided to declare the bridge World Heritage site, being the first monument in the Basque Country to the been recognised like that.

LOGGING REQUIREMENTS.

This virtual cache is a tribute to something that people from Bizkaia have been doing for so many years, that is, crossing the river, so conditions to log this cache are as follows.

You need to upload a picture with you log where it is appearing your nickname and the visit date, made from the center of the river near the indicated coordinates. You can achieve that from the boat that crosses the river (just go directly to the small green boat and pay there the small fee), from the transporter bridge (take ticket at the site), from the upper corridor of the bridge (great views), by your own boat, by paddling, or as you like ;), You can shoot towards the sea or towards Bilbao, as you like more.

Pictures taken from the sides of the river will not be valid and the log will be deleted without further notice.
