Geocache Description:

Easy short hike in Groenkloof Nature Reserve.

Gold Receipt.

Many a story has been told about the “Kruger Millions” and the gold that was hidden away in the “ Tweede Anglo-Boere Oorlog”. All we know is snippets of what must have been a remarkable journey for the gold. We know that a Meyer removed the gold from the Mint in Pretoria on 04 June 1900 and that the gold was handed over to a German firm “Wilken & Ackerman” in Lourenco Marques on 31 August 1900.

Some of these roughly cast “Gold Bars” are still in my family’s possession and I decided to share it with fellow Geocachers. A new hiding place has been found for a small amount of gold, each geocacher may take one bar only. You must sign a receipt and note the number of the bar of gold you take. Please take only your share, the secret division of the old “Boere Republiek’s Police” the ZAP is protecting it.

To find the cache it is advisable to use a walking stick, as always be aware of critters. Many “Dassies” abound in the area. It is possible for a normal vehicle to get you very near to the site. Remember to bring a “Piekniek & Braai mandjie” with to enjoy after the hunt.

While you are in the area, also check other nine (9) caches for which you need a 4x4 vehicle of mountain bike to make the most of the entrance fee. Make it a day with game watching included to the Geocaching experience.
