This is the first cache that we've hidden so we've made it quite an easy one. Very suitable for young families and those trying geocaching for the first time. You can approach the cache from a number of directions but we've picked a circular route to give you a pleasant walk. Not suitable for a pushchair but fine for children to walk. Some knee height overgrowth on one bridleway. This is a very beautiful part of the area known locally as the Chalke Valley on the Wiltshire / Dorset borders.
You can park at location 51 01.482 N by 002 03.096 W which is where the road cuts the Ox Drove bridleway. Set off on in a West direction along the Ox Drove until you meet the first bridleway on the left then follow your GPS from there.
When you have found the cache continue up the hill and your GPS will lead you on the second half of the loop back to the parking area.
The cache is a medium size ammo box containing a small selection of toys.
Alternative routes:
1. Park up in the pretty village of Alvediston for a mostly road and track walk to the cache.
2. For a short and direct walk for very young children head South on the road from the parking area. This would also be the best direction to aproach if you are mountain biking.
When you've finished geocaching you are spoilt for choice for places to eat and drink in this area. The villages of Berwick St John, Alvediston and Ebbesbourne Wake are very attractive and have a selection of great pubs. There are also a number of good pubs on the A30. We like the one at Ludwell at 51 00.140 N by 002 08.080 W.
