Geocache Description:

This is my second cache close to the top of Black Mountain. The view from here can be spectacular, but you'll need the weather on your side.

The cache is located near the backpack camp of Monte Bello Open Space Preserve. It was placed during an overnight with Boy Scout Troop 80 (Mountain View). The Scouts were given some basics on the use of GPS, and on Geocaching. Because the cache was placed on CITO day 2004 (cache-in trash-out), the Scouts did an extra clean sweep of the campsite before leaving.

The Backpack camp is truly refreshing compared to regular camp sites that can be accessed by car. It is very clean, very quiet, and perfectly located (for younger backpackers) within 2 miles of the parking lot, with great views on both the Pacific and the Bay. Consider spending a night here (reservation required), on your own, with your family or with a group.

WATCH OUT FOR POISON OAK, TICKS AND SNAKES IN THIS PARK
The cache location was poison oak free when it was placed.

The cache is a standard green Ammo box and contained, when placed:

  • logbook, stashnote, pen
  • 2 books
  • 3 PC games for kids
  • 1 audio book
  • some smaller items
  • and a travel bug
Feel free to trade.

The coordinates should be enough to find the cache. I had an adult leader from the troop, new to Geocaching, test out the coordinates and he had no problem finding the cache.
