verkennen. Dit natuurgebied bevat enkele stuifzandgebieden en een
grote zandwal in een verder vrij vlakke omgeving. De route is niet
toegankelijk voor kinderwagens, rolstoelen en gemotoriseerd
verkeer.
beantwoorden:
A. Hoe is deze zandrug ontstaan?
log geldig.
This Earthcache leads you about a part of National Park 'De
Zoom'. This area contains some areas with drift sand and a long
stretched sand dune in an otherwise quite flat environment. The
track is not accessible for baby buggies, wheelchairs and motorized
vehicles.
You can park your car at N 52 08.918/ E 5 16.163.
The sand dunes have arisen after the middle ages, when the
population increased strongly in the area, the result being
over-grazing and deforestation. In the 18th and 19th century the
sand dunes had the largest area. To the North's and North East side
of the sand dunes arose sand ramparts (that possibly by the
inhabitants were further raised to stop blowing sand). The sand
ramparts were planted with common oak and were managed as coppice.
Since the end of the 19th century disappeared by reafforestation
with pine tree much of the sand dune. On the North side of the sand
dunes, the high sand backs with oak-scrub are still present. The
age is estimated to 400 up to perhaps 800 years.
- Go to N 52 09.180/E 5 15.646. You are standing near an
information sign with the sand hill of 'De Zoom' to one side and
the lower area 'Hees' to the other (side). 'De Zoom' (literally:
'The Seam') was once the edge of a big drift sand area. In the
forest of pine trees you can still find small drift sand areas and
moors.
A. What caused this sand dune?
- Climb the sand dune and go to N 52 09.094/E 5 15.444. Look for
the object on the photograph and make a picture of yourself holding
a GPS.
B. How high and how wide is the sand dune at this
location?
After answering the questions, you can mail them to the cache
maker and log the cache. And don't forget to include the picture
with your log.
