EUROVELO 8
Traveling by bike is called bicycle tourism and moves more than 44,000 million euros a year on the continent. Those of us who have been lucky enough to travel by bike in Europe have seen and verified the economic and touristic potential of long-distance routes such as Canal du Midi / Canal du Garonne / Velodyssee /Castillos del Loira / Costa Mediterranea / Via Rhona
Eurovelo is a European project formed by cyclists and entities to provide the means and infrastructure to travel by bike. It is much more than putting a paddle or making a bike path. There are routes that allow you to travel across Europe, thinking about the needs and circumstances of cyclists.
In some countries, the public initiative has been able to invest in infrastructures, promote them and disseminate them. Its Eurovelo routes attract thousands of travelers. In others like Spain, there is (almost) everything to do. At least before it was something exotic, and now it's on the agenda of some politicians.
The Eurovelo tours are not only designed for people who travel long distances loaded with their saddlebags and sleeping in a tent. They are also designed for those who are looking for a trip of a few days, from hotel to hotel with a toothbrush and a change of clothes. Or in those who make specific excursions and want to know the sites in an ecological and safe way. It is only necessary to see that the majority of retired foreigners who come to Spain take in their caravan their bikes with which they do not stop to make excursions or simply to move.
EUROVELO 8 EN ESPAÑA
In Spain, there are three Eurovelo routes. The Eurovelo 8 passes through the Mediterranean coast of Spain, allowing to reach Athens (Greece) crossing several countries. It would become what the ancient Roman august road was.
EUROVELO 8 EN LA COMUNIDAD VALENCIANA
In December 2018, the Eurovelo 8 project was presented in the Valencian Community. I, who am an old dog in this mobility, have already seen announcements of plans, which have been left in a summer night's dream, or a broken and abandoned toy. This time, however, it seems that it is serious, since a rigorous study has laid the foundations of the project and determined the layout. Then it is up to the governments in turn to continue with the issue or keep it in a drawer because 2019 is the year of elections..
The study that is posted on the conselleria website details and specifies the route of Eurovelo 8 by the Valencian community, admitting variants in the route. To date there was no consensus on the route layout. With the field work have been identified the stretches currently cyclable, and the points on which work must be done to gain safety and cyclability. Reading the conclusions, I liked that the safety and low slope criteria of the ECF have been taken into account. It has also been considered the combination with the Railway, and achieve an attractive tour and full of tourist resources. With this philosophy the route has been divided into 10 stages.
