Zespunts Braille : Militair geheimschrift van blinden?
In het verleden hielden blinden zich vooral bezig met het lezen en schrijven van gewone letters zoals wij die ook schrijven. Ondertussen werd in het Franse leger een geheime code ontwikkeld. De bedoeling was dat die code ook in het donker door de soldaten kon worden gelezen. Toen de Franse Louis Braille 11 jaar oud was, nam hij een geheime militaire code en veranderde die in leesbare tekst voor blinden. Zo legde hij de basis voor geschreven communicatie tussen blinden. Vanwege het belang van de ontwikkeling wordt deze tactiele (voelbare) schrijfmethode voor blinden nog steeds Braille genoemd.

In the past, blind people were mainly concerned with reading and writing ordinary letters as we write them. Meanwhile, a secret code was developed in the French army. The intention was that the code could also be read by the soldiers in the dark. When the Frenchman Louis Braille was 11 years old, he took a secret military code and turned it into readable text for the blind. In this way he laid the foundation for written communication for the blind. Due to the importance of the development, this tactile (touchable) writing method for the blind is still called Braille today.
