Geocache Description:

An easy hike to a scenic lake in the woods.

Parking at the gate at the end of Rt 82 offers an approach from the South. A new foot bridge is now in place at the end of Hay Creek Road that offers an approach from the North. Access from Rt 345 or Cocalico Road is also possible with a bit of pathfinding. Birdsboro's Reservoir and the surrounding Boro owned lands are a key holding in the effort to preserve the Hay Creek Valley and the "Big Woods" of Chester and Berks Counties in SE Penna. This one is very biker, and dog friendly. Kids that are comfortable off trail will have an easy time all the way to the cache, but toddlers will probably want to skip the last few hundred feet. The container is a gallon PE mayonnaise jar, which has never been stored on Funk and Wagnall’s porch. If you are up to it, I have placed three other caches that are a bit more more challanging in the area. All four can be done in a single loop as an afternoon hike with a fair amount of bushwhacking and most likely a wet stream crossing. Plan your route carefully. For information on the ecological preservation efforts in the valley see http://www.haycreekwatershed.org
