Geocache Description:

About a 45 minute return trip to the summit of the Kirkie Bing with outstanding views all around.

This cache is located almost at the top of the Kirkie Bing, a landmark that can be seen from miles around yet few people actually make the walk to the summit, the bing was created from the spoil coming from the adjacent Gartshore Colliery, the photo shows how it looked in 1966, two or three of the original buildings also remain.

1966

The bing is now well covered in undergrowth and some fairly large trees, the only access to the bing is to use the route given, do not try by any other way please.

, From parking follow the path along the North side of the river, shortly after you pass the closed bridge the path slopes uphill gently to where it bears left in to a more open area, walk towards the West face of the bing and use the very obvious track, do not try any other way, the cache is located a short distance from the top. Last few metres steep.
