1973 Kicks off the year with the pilot episode of Last of the Summer Wine. Music Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree (Dawn featuring Tony Orlando) is the best selling single of the year; birthday number one is the Simon Park Orchestra with Eye Level, which was the theme from the TV series Van Der Valk; Slade's Merry Xmas Everybody is the Christmas number one. Also in 1973: Tottenham Hotspur win the Football League Cup; Sears Tower, Chicago becomes the world's tallest building (1,451 feet); Watergate continues; Sydney Opera House is opened; three-day week.
