Geocache Description:

Yep, this cache is definitely in the flight path of planes coming and going from Richmond International Airport (RIC). I wonder how many active geocachers and trackables are on any one of those planes? How many planes will fly overhead while you spend time with this cache? How many trackables will come and go through this cache as cachers travel through Richmond? Just a few questions to ponder while searching for this cache. Your search will hopefully be a short, yet fun, experience.

As always, use stealth accordingly and be mindful of muggles. There is plenty of parking nearby. There is a good amount of GPS bounce in the area, so don't be afraid to rely on your geosenses. Coordinates will get you close...within about 15' or so (and no, it's not in the most obvious place, so don't even bother checking there...either of them).

Fun facts about Richmond International Airport:

  • Serving central Virginia since 1927
  • Over 3 million visitors annually
  • Recent renovations completely transformed the terminal...looks fantastic now
  • RIC is owned and operated by the Capital Region Airport Commission
  • More than 90 million pounds of cargo are handled at the airport annually
  • The airport handles about 105,000 landings/take-offs annually
  • Three asphalt-grooved runways accommodate all aircraft
  • The longest runway is 9,003 feet in length by 150 feet in width
  • Combined, the last two U.S. presidents have visited Richmond onboard Air Force One ten times since 2000
