Railway Tunnel Wood
Beneath this wood runs the main railway line between Swindon and Cheltenham. There are three airshafts and one filled in. These are tall, large diameter structures made from a combination of brick and stone, there is no danger for children etc. due to their height. If you’re standing near an airshaft when a train passes underneath you can hear a faint “whoosh” which indicates that the tunnel must be quite deep under the surface.
