Depois de o antigo owner ter sido forçado a abandonar o geocaching e por nao ter tempo para cuidar da anterior cache, decidi criar uma nova e homenagear este símbolo madeirense.
A história do Estádio dos Barreiros inicia-se em 1923, ano em que o Clube Desportivo Nacional tomou posse de cerca de 18.000 m² de terrenos no Sitio dos Barreiros para a construção de um recinto pelado onde se praticava futebol, em concorrência com o campo Almirante Reis, no centro do Funchal.
As obras tiveram início em 1925. Em 26 de Junho de 1927, o campo de futebol foi inaugurado, com a presença do Vitória Futebol Clube de Setúbal.
Apesar da inauguração ter ocorrido em 1927, as obras só ficaram concluídas em 1930 e com custos muito elevados para a altura (848 contos).
Termina em 1933, ou seja dez anos após ter tomado posse do terreno, a curta relação do Clube Desportivo Nacional com o Campo dos Barreiros.
Um grupo de personalidades, constituído por figuras ilustres da Madeira - incluindo os novos proprietários (empreiteiros) - decidiu manter o campo em actividade suportando as despesas de manutenção.
No dia 5 de Maio de 1957, realizou-se a inauguração do actual Estádio dos Barreiros, presidida pelo então Ministro das Obras Públicas o Eng. Arantes de Oliveira. A inauguração, com 12 mil espectadores presentes, teve uma receita de bilheteira de cerca de 254 contos.
Lugar mítico do futebol madeirense, o estádio foi propriedade da Região Autónoma da Madeira até 2009, estando a ser alvo de reconstrução, já nas mãos do Club Sport Marítimo para que este possa ter um espaço condigno para actuar. Tal medida foi decidida em reunião de Conselho do Governo Regional da Região Autónoma da Madeira a 13 de Setembro de 2007.
A reconstrução deveria ter ficado concluída em 2015 mas alguns atrasos de financiamento, levaram a que a obra ainda esteja a ser terminada.

The owner of the previous cache because of some dificulties, could not keep the maintenance of the cache, so after talking to him and as he was not able to transfer her to me , I decided to create a new cache and honor this Madeira symbol.
The history of Barreiros Stadium begins in 1923, the year that the local soccer team Clube Desportivo Nacional took possession of about 18,000 m² of land in Sitio dos Barreiros for the construction of a striped field where one could practice soccer, competing with Almirante Reis, another soccer field in the center of Funchal.
Work began in 1925. On June 26, 1927, the soccer field was inaugurated with the presence of soccer team Futebol Clube Vitória from Setúbal (mainland Portugal).
Despite the inauguration taking place in 1927, the works were only completed in 1930, with very high costs for the time (848 thousand Escudos – former Portuguese currency – roughly 4.230 Euros).
In 1933, only ten years after taking possession of the land, ends the short term relationship between Clube Desportivo Nacional and the Barreiros soccer field.
A group of people, consisting of distinguished Madeiran figures - including the new owners (contractors) - decided to keep the field activities and supporting maintenance costs.
On May 5, 1957, the inauguration of the current Barreiros Stadium was held, chaired by the then Minister of Public Works, Eng. Arantes de Oliveira. The opening, with 12.000 spectators, had a receipt of about 254 thousand Escudos (1.267 Euros).
Mythical place of Madeiran soccer, the stadium was owned by the local government until 2009, and is currently under reconstruction, now in the hands of Club Sport Marítimo. This measure was decided at a meeting of the Council of the Autonomous Region of Madeira Regional Government on September 13th, 2007. Reconstruction was suposed to finish last year(2015), but some financial problems, delayed it.
