Międzyrzecki Rejon Umocniony, MRU – polska nazwa: Umocniony Łuk Odry i Warty (niem. Ostwall albo Festungsfront im Oder-Warthe Bogen (FFOWB lub OWB)) – system umocnień stworzony przez Niemców w latach 1934–1944 dla ochrony wschodniej granicy (Bramy Lubuskiej i przedmościa odrzańskiego).
MRU składa się z trzech odcinków różniących pod względem charakterystyki geograficznej otoczenia i nasyceniem obiektami fortyfikacyjnymi. Odcinek północny opiera się o rzekę Wartę pod Gorzowem Wielkopolskim, gdzie styka się z południową flanką Wału Pomorskiego i kończy w okolicach miejscowości Kursko i Pieski. Odcinek centralny, najsilniej ufortyfikowany, ciągnie się od Kurska przez Kęszycę, Pniewo do Boryszyna. Odcinek południowy od Lubrzy do Odry łączy umocnienia MRU z Linią Środkowej Odry.
Międzyrzecki Rejon Umocniony to jedne z największych podziemi fortyfikacyjnych świata. Podziemia odcinka centralnego MRU są obecnie rezerwatem nietoperzy, w którym zimuje ponad 30 tys. osobników należących do 12 gatunków nietoperzy. Die Festungsfront Oder-Warthe-Bogen, auch Festung im Oder-Warthe-Bogen, volkstümlich Ostwall genannt, war eine seit Mitte 1934 vom Deutschen Reich aufgebaute, stark befestigte Verteidigungslinie, die etwa 120 km östlich von Berlin vom Fluss Warthe im Norden zur Oder im Süden führt. [...]
Schwerpunkt des Ostwalls ist der Zentralabschnitt, der im Süden mit der sogenannten Burschener Schleife in der Nähe des Ortes Burschen (poln. Boryszyn) beginnt und sich von dort ungefähr zwölf Kilometer lang nach Norden erstreckt. Im Zentralabschnitt sind die Bunker durch ein System unterirdischer Tunnel (Hohlgänge) miteinander verbunden. The Festungsfront Oder-Warthe-Bogen (Fortified Front Oder-Warthe-Bogen), also called the Festung im Oder-Warthe-Bogen or Ostwall (East Wall), and in Polish the Międzyrzecki Rejon Umocniony (Międzyrzecz Fortification Region), was a fortified military defence line of Nazi Germany between the Oder and Warta rivers. Built in 1934–38, it was the most technologically advanced fortification system of Nazi Germany, and remains one of the largest and the most interesting systems of this type in the world today. It consists of around 100 concrete defence structures partially interconnected by a network of underground tunnels. Some of the forts and tunnels are available for visiting.
The most interesting part is the central section, which begins in the south with the so-called Boryszyn Loop near the village of Boryszyn and extends about 12 km to the north. In the central section the bunkers are interconnected with an underground system of tunnels, 32 kilometres long and up to 40 metres deep. In the underground system there are also railway stations, workshops, engine rooms and barracks.
It is also the largest European underground bat refuge, giving shelter to some 35,000 bats of 12 species in the wintertime. Wiki
