Event:
EarthCache - specjalny typ skrytki, który polega na odwiedzeniu wskazanego przez współrzędne miejsca i udzieleniu odpowiedzi na pytania z zakresu geologii. Pojęcie "geologia" jest tu bardzo szerokie i obejmuje także inne nauki o Ziemi, takie jak hydrologia, geomofologia, gleboznawstwo itp. Głównymi zaletami tego typu skrytek jest ich zerowa inwazyjność w środowisko przyrodnicze oraz możliwość naocznego zapoznania się z budową naszej planety.
10 stycznia 2004 w Australii powstała pierwsza na świecie skrytka EarthCache. Idea powstała przy współpracy z Geological Society of America (GSA), które cały czas wspiera i promuje ten typ geocache. Przez ostatnie 10 lat powstało ok. 20 tysięcy skrytek EarthCache na całym świecie.
W Polsce pierwsza skrytka EarthCache została założona w połowie 2007 r. a pierwsza w województwie małopolskim pod koniec 2009 r. Wówczas na terenie naszego kraju było zaledwie 9 skrytek EarthCache. Od tego czasu sporo się jednak zmieniło. Obecnie w Polsce liczba skrytek EarthCache przekracza 100, z czego ponad 1/4 znajduje się na terenie naszego województwa. Nic dziwnego, gdyż nasz region jest bardzo urozmaicony morfologicznie i geologicznie - mamy góry, wyżyny i kotliny; skały osadowe, magmowe i metamorficzne; jaskinie, źródła mineralne, formy polodowcowe, wychodnie skalne a nawet wygasłe wulkany. To wszystko czyni nasz region bardzo atrakcyjnym pod względem geologicznym.
W związku z 10-leciem EarthCache, w dniu 10.01.2014, na całym świecie organizowane są specjalne eventy związane z geologią. Na mapie tych eventów nie zabraknie także Krakowa. W porozumieniu z Muzeum Geologicznym ING PAN odbędzie się na jego terenie specjalny geologiczny event. Spotkanie rozpocznie się o godzinie 17.00 poza normalnymi godzinami otwarcia muzeum - zostanie ono udostępnione specjalnie dla nas. Na miejscu będzie można dowiedzieć się ciekawych informacji na temat budowy geologicznej okolic Krakowa, które mogą zaowocować pomysłami na nowe EarthCache w nadchodzącym roku. Na miejscu można brać skały do ręki i w ten sposób lepiej poznać ich właściwości, aby rozpoznać je później w terenie. Uczestnicy eventu otrzymają drobne upominki wysłane przez GSA specjalnie na tę okazję. W trakcie eventu zostanie także opublikowana skrytka EarthCache - będzie zatem możliwość zdobycia FTFa.
Uwaga! Wejście do muzeum będzie płatne, jednak kwota 4 zł od osoby nie powinna nikogo zniechęcić.

Event:
The EarthCache –a special type of geocache, which requires visiting a spot pointed by coordinates, and answering geological questions. The term “geological” has a very broad meaning here and also includes other Earth sciences such as hydrology, geomorphology, pedology etc. The main advantage of EarthCache is its nature-friendly character and outdoor lessons that it can teach about the structure of our planet.
The very first EarthCache was Published in Australia on 10 January 2004. The idea was implemented in cooperation with Geological Society of America (GSA), which constantly supports and promotes this type of geocache. Over the last 10 years nearly 20 thousad EarthCaches have been published all over the World.
The first EarthCache in Poland was published in the middle of the year 2007 and the first in Lesser Poland ( Polish ‘Małopolska’) at the end of 2009. At the time there were only 9 EarthCaches in the whole country. Since then everything has changed. Presently the number of EarthCaches in Poland is higher than 100, and more than 1/4 are located in our province. It is not surprising because morphology and geology of our region is very diversified– we have mountains, hills and valleys; sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks; caves, mineral springs, glacial forms, outcrops and even extinct volcanoes. All this makes our region very interesting in geological respect.
To celebrate 10 years of EarthCache geological events are organized on 10 January 2014 all over the world. Krakow will also find its place on the map of these events. In cooperation with Geological Museum ING PAN a special event will be organized in the building of the museum. The event will start at 5.00 p.m., after the opening hours – the museum will be available specially for us. You will be able to learn about interesting geological features of Krakow and its area there, which may give you an idea for making your own EarthCache in the coming year. You will be able to touch rock samples and learn about their properties to recognize them outdoors. The event participants will receive small gifts sent by GSA specially for that event. During the Event a new EarthCache will be published – so you have a chance to receive an FTF award.
Attention! You will have to pay an entrance fee, but the sum of 4 zloty(about 1€) per person should not be discouraging for anyone.
