Historia-popis / History-Description
Podtatranske muzeum v Poprade bolo zalozene Uhorskym karpatskym spolkom v roku 1876. Vzhladom na nezhody okolo umiestnenia muzea medzi doslo v roku 1882 k otvoreniu Tatranskeho muzea vo Velkej a v roku 1886 Karpatskeho muzea v Poprade. V roku 1945 sa obe muzea spojili do jedneho s nazvom Tatranske muzeum okresu Popradskeho (od roku 1961 Podtatranske muzeum). V roku 1978 ziskalo muzeum budovu v Spiskej Sobote, ktora v sucasnosti tiez sluzi na expozicne ucely.
Museum in Poprad was founded by the Hungarian Carpathian Society in 1876. Due to the disagreements concerning to the localisation of the museum in 1882, was open the Tatran museum in Velka and in 1886 the Carpathian museum in Poprad. In 1945 both of them were joined into one, named the Tatran museum of the district of Poprad, since 1961 the Podtatranske Museum. In 1978 the museum was given the building in Spisska Sobota and today it serves to the exposition purpose.

Ganovce - Zivotne prostredie neandertalskeho cloveka je jedinou expoziciou na Slovensku, v ktorej ma navstevnik moznost prostrednictvom vystavenych exponatov, spoznat neandertalskeho cloveka zijuceho v oblasti pod Vysokymi Tatrami pred 120 000 - 80000 rokmi.
Ganovce - The Environment of the Neanderthal Man is the only exposition in Slovakia where the visitors has a possibility to know through the exhibits the life of the Neanderthal Man, living in this region below the High Tatras 120,000 – 80,000 years ago.
Pravek a vcasny stredovek pod Tatrami poskytuje v chronologickom slede najpravdepodobnejsi obraz dejinneho vyvoja tohto regionu od neskoreho paleolitu (pred 10 000 rokmi) az po stredovek.
Pre-historic Age and Early Middle Age below the High Tatras provides the most likely picture of the historical evolution in the chronological order since the late Stone Age, 10,000 years ago, until the Middle Age.
Poprad v storociach priblizuje navstevnikom muzea bohatu historiu mesta Poprad a jeho blizkeho okolia od polovice 13. storocia do zaciatku 20. storocia. Okrem historickeho vyvinu a hospodarskeho rozvoja mesta mapuje i dejiny Uhorskeho karpatskeho spolku a Tatranskeho a Karpatskeho muzea (dnes Podtatranskeho muzea).
Poprad through Centuries. The exposition introduces the rich history of the town of Poprad and its closer surrounding since the middle of the XIIIth century till the beginning of the XXth century. In addition to the historical evolution and economic development of the town it covers the history of the Hungarian Carpathian Society and the Tatran and Carpathian museas.
Priroda znama - neznama. Prostrednictvom expozicie sa navstevnici mozu oboznamit s prirodou podtatranskeho regionu. Pozostava z troch ucelenych casti: nezivej prirody, botanickej a zoologickej.
Nature both known and unknown. Through this exposition the visitors are allowed to know the nature of the sub-Tatran region. It consists of three unitary parts: anorganic nature, bothanical and zoological ones.
Vyroba Modrotlace z dielne Elemira Montska v Hranovnici. Expozicia predstavuje sposob vyroby a vyuzitie modrotlace v odeve i interieri. Doplnena je aj modrotlaciarenskymi formami.
Manufacture of blue-printing from Elemir Montstek's worshop in Hranovnica. The exposition displays the way of manufacturing and the use of blue-printing in clothing and interior. Completed with the blue-printing moulds.
Ludove plastiky sa nachadzaju v parku muzea, ktore je postavene v pseudorenesancnom slohu.
Folk plastics are situated in the museum's park which has been built in pseudo-Renaissance style.
