Geocache Description:

Visit this cave, recorded as long ago as 1648, on the banks of the River Trent. 2km from the car park, steep and muddy in places, often by a cliff edge.

This 1L ice cream container is hidden near the Anchor Church Caves on the footpath between Ingleby and Foremark. Legend has it that hundreds of years ago, a cleric who had helped destroy a marriage afterwards repented and lived here in the church cave.We recommend starting at the John Thomson pub, at N52.50.306 W001.28.624. They brew their own beer, and Lee can recommend it. They only do lunchtime food though. This area is rich in ancient histoy, with traces of the 'Beaker People' dating to 2500BC and Danish Viking burial mounds.Walk through the village (no pavement - careful!) and just after the road bends to the left you'll see the footpath off to the right through a gate. The path quickly forks - take the right fork and keep on going. It would be unwise to do this one in times of flood or if wet and muddy as the edges can get a bit steep in places. It was hard to get a good GPS reading by the cliff edge; the closest point on the river bank (better signal) was N52.50.488 W001.29.919.In case you were wondering about the name... An anchorite is a hermit; the rocks that form the caves are triassic conglomerate.P.S. I'm sorry to say that the gate to the footpath from the road in Ingleby appears to be locked some or all of the time; it is fairly easy to climb through the missing bars of the gate.
