GAG8
Drive-by Micro: Hydro
Road
In a quiet
cul-de-sac used primarily by Hydro and railway vehicles, this cache
sits on what was once Ridge Road. Before the 417 was opened in the
early 70’s, Ridge Road ran from Russell
Road and along the Borthwick Ridge
ending at the Mer Bleue bog. After the 417 came along, the road was
terminated at Ramsayville Road to the
east, while the west portion served the Walkley Road offramp
until 1995. The opening of the twin railway overpasses on
Walkley eliminated the need for the
road beyond the hydro station. The area where the cache sits was
once an extremely busy bottleneck with 2 railway crossings. Now the
area is silent except for the occasional passing train.
This series
was placed in early March 2006 before GAG8 was even
announced. For
cachers-on-the-go, it has been set up
to allow quick and easy access to each cache site. You can
literally park within 10 feet of every cache, however there is no guarantee the parking
spot closest to the cache is always available! All of these caches are stroller
friendly, and most are wheelchair friendly. I was able to hide one
of the caches without even getting out of my car! Parents of babies
and small children who like to sleep in the car will especially
like this series since you can keep an eye on them as you search
for the cache. Originally I was going to give hints, but I decided
not to so as not to make the series boring. Each cache container is
a 35mm film canister containing a single mylar scroll. The
mylar
(plastic) is waterproof and matte on one side. Bring a pencil to
sign in. Pen will work too, but not as well. Here are the rest in the
series:
