Il Quirinale

La piazza del Quirinale prende il nome dall'omonimo colle che rappresenta uno dei 7 antichi colli di Roma. Il Palazzo del Quirinale Fu costruito verso il 1584 per volere di papa Gregorio XIII. Prima che il palazzo assumesse l'aspetto attuale vi lavorarono molti grandi architetti fra cui Domenico Fontana che disegnò la facciata, Carlo Maderno la grande cappella, Flaminio Ponzio, Gian Lorenzo Bernini e Alessandro Fuga. L'edificio fu definitivamente compiuto nel XVIII secolo, sotto il pontificato di papa Clemente XII Corsini.

E' di notevole grandiosità, ma non presenta una struttura architettonica di eccezionale valore nonostante gli interventi di grandi artisti. La facciata presenta, come elemento decorativo di un certo interesse, il bel portale (1615) di Carlo Maderno sovrastato dalla Loggia delle Benedizioni (1638), opera del Bernini.

Nell'interno si apre un ampio cortile in fondo al quale si eleva l'alta torre dell'orologio. Gli ampi, numerosissimi ambienti interni sono decorati con notevoli affreschi di vari autori. Interessante, in particolare, è la cappella dell'Annunciata con affreschi di Guido Reni. Magnifico è il giardino dei primi del Settecento con la singolare fontana dell'Organo.

Dopo essere stato residenza papale e sede di molti conclavi per l'elezione del pontefice, nel 1870 il palazzo divenne residenza ufficiale dei reali d'Italia, e poi nel 1947 del Presidente della Repubblica.

Per ragioni di sicurezza il palazzo e i giardini sono usualmente chiusi al pubblico, tranne la domenica previa prenotazione.

Il presidente della Repubblica Sergio Mattarella, appena eletto (2015), ha però dichiarato che aprirà a breve il palazzo ed i giardini al pubblico con una maggiore frequenza.

• W Recatevi nell'angolo SW della piazza del Quirinale e rivolgete lo sguardo verso Ovest. Dovreste notare una iscrizione che fa riferimento ad un Papa. Il numero che corrisponde a tale papa è la lettera W (è in numeri romani, va convertito :) )

• XX Andate alle coordinate N41° 53,898 E12 29,206 e guardate il muro di mattoni. C'è una targhetta con iscritto un numero di 4 cifre. Le ultime 2 cifre del numero -4 sono XX.

• YY Andate alle coordinate N41° 53,986 E12° 29,298 e vi troverete davanti una statua equestre. Sulla parte alta del basamento sono scolpite delle buffe mezzelune (vedi figura 1). Contate il numero delle mezzelune su tutto il monumento e moltiplicate il risultato per due, quello è il numero YY.

• Z Sulla piazza del Quirinale, a sinistra dell'entrata principale, inizia una rampa di scale che porta alla strada sottostante. Contate quante finestrelle ovali, come quella della figura 2, sono sul lato sinistro della scala scendendo e aggiungete 4. Quel numero è Z.

Correte alla cache e, facendo molta attenzione, potrebbero esserci muggles con la divisa, oltre ai consueti bimbi e cani a passeggio, prelevatela e firmate il log. Portatevi un attrezzo per scrivere!

The Quirinale

The Piazza del Quirinale takes its name from the hill that is one of the famous 7 hills of ancient Rome. The Palazzo del Quirinale was built in 1584 by the will of Pope Gregory XIII. Many great architects including Domenico Fontana who designed the facade, Carlo Maderno the great chapel, Flaminio Ponzio, Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Alessandro Fuga worked to build and decorate the palace. The building was finally completed in the eighteenth century, under the papacy of Pope Clemente XII Corsini.

It is not a building of exceptional value despite the intervention of great artists. The facade has a decorative element of interest, the beautiful portal (1615) by Carlo Maderno dominated by the Loggia of Blessings (1638), by Bernini.

Inside is a large open courtyard at the end of which the high clock tower rises. The large interiors are decorated with frescoes by several notable authors. Interesting, in particular, is the chapel dell'Annunciata with frescoes by Guido Reni. Is the magnificent garden from the early eighteenth century with a beautiful fountain.

After being papal residence and headquarters of many conclaves for the election of the Pope, in 1870 the palace became the official residence of the Italian Royal family, and then in 1947 of the President of the Italian Republic.

For security reasons, the palace and gardens are usually closed to the public.

Newly elected Presidente della Repubblica Sergio Mattarella declared that the palace and its gardens will be opened soon on a daily base.

• W Go to the SW corner of the piazza del Quirinale and look West. You should note that an inscription refers to a Pope. The number that corresponds to this Pope is the letter W (in Roman numerals, it should be converted) :) )

• XX Go to coordinates N41° 53,898 E12 29,206 and see the brick wall. There is a small plate with a 4-digit number. Subtract 4 to the number composed by the last 2 digits. You have now XX

• YY Go to coordinates N41° 53,986 E12° 29,298 and you're in front of an equestrian statue. On the top of the basement are carved some funny halfmoons (see Figure 1). Count the number of halfmoons all around the monument and multiply the result by two; that is the number YY. .

• Z On the piazza del Quirinale, left of the main entrance, begins a flight of stairs leading to the street below. Count how many oval windows, like that of Figure 2, are on the left side of the stairs going down and add 4. That number is Z.

Run to the cache, and doing a lot of attention, there can be some guardian muggles, besides the usual football kids and walking dogs, take it and sign the log. Bring a writing tool!
