If any of you have been around geocaching for any amount of time then you might wonder how it all started. Well that is a long story which can be found on the history of geocaching under the resources tab on the main page. But I will tell you this brief tidbit of history: The US government decided it was time to let people use the satellites we paid for to pinpoint our location on this planet. On May 1, 2000 selective availability was shut off (This is a cool way of saying that the satellite signal would be available to everyone). So officially on May 2, 2000 we could use a GPS system to find treasures and get smileys. On May 3, 2000 the very first geocache was hidden by Dave Ulmer. It was a cool 5 gallon bucket.
In honor of the sport that gives us so much enjoyment please come to a 10 year anniversary party at Boettler Park in Green, Ohio on May 1, 2010. The event will start at noon and end around 4pm. This event will be open to the whole family and admission will be a covered dish or desert. Here is the most practical way I can think of doing this. If your name ends in A-M Bring a covered dish, if your name ends in N-Z bring a desert. When posting your will/will not attend please let us know what you will be bringing.
There will be numerous temporary caches placed as well as the many permanent caches that live in this park. I will have a gpx file uploaded closer to the event so all can download it and get the caches in between eating and socializing. Also there is a commemorative coin being produced and will be available for purchase at the event.
The festivities will be in the large pavillion located on the hill right when you drive in. The coordinates put you right in front of the pavillion. The playground is located right next to the pavillion so this will most definitely be a family event.

1st Update to the page: Due to other events this day we are going to change the time to make it a little easier for travel. We will still start gathering around 1200, but we will finish up by 3pm (not 4pm). Also, in order to fullfill the requirements for the 10 year designation, we will be having the photo taken at 1245, then we will eat. Please make all attempts to be there by 1230 so we can get organized. More updates to be added later.
2nd Update to the page: I just got word that the coin I ordered will be in my hands on Wednesday. Pics are posted. Also, I will be picking up a small cake, small since people are bringing deserts. I have the hamburgers, hot dogs and buns. There looks like there will be 16-20 temp caches and the final update will be the coords for them. Thanks again. I am so excited.
