Placed at Peggy's Cove Memorial site in memory of those who's lives were lost and to those from the the various Volunteer Organizations who gave so much in the time of need. Stealth is required at this site due to the very high Muggle traffic at the near by Memorial.
PLEASE DO NOT MOVE ANY ROCKS OR DISTURB THE AREA IN ANY WAY. THE CACHE CAN BE RETRIVED WITHOUT MOVING ANYTHING. STEP ON NOTHING BUT ROCK, AND DO NOT WALK ON THE VEGETATION PLEASE.
A brief history of that fateful night is as follows:
On September 2nd 1998 Swissair flight 111 departed John F Kennedy New York en route to Geneva, Switzerland. On board were 215 passengers and 14 crewmembers.Approximately 53 minutes after take off the crew noticed an unusual smell, then 3 1/2 minutes later the crew noticed smoke in the cockpit and declared "Emergency" to the Moncton Area Control Centre. They in turn advised the pilot to proceed to Halifax International Airport. At approximately 2231 ADT the aircraft struck the waters near Peggys Cove Nova Scotia fatefully injuring all 229 occupants.
As we were part of the shoreline recovery for two months after the crash as Volunteers with Halifax Regional Search and Rescue Team we felt that we would like to take over the cache from the original owner "Cashekicker" as he had recently archived the original cache. We were in contact with him and he advised that he had no objection to our taking over the cache and establishing it as a new cache with same cords. As the cache and the near by Memorial have significant meaning to us as Search and Rescue Volunteers we wanted the cache to remain in play. The location has not changed but the cache will be a new listing. Parking is available at the Swiss Air Memorial parking lot. There is a FTF for the first to log.
