Snorkasaurus Gulch Traditional Geocache

Team Snorkasaurus: Bad news in Bedrock...

The Griffith Park trails have recently been re-opened and I finally had the opportunity to check on the Snorkasaurus Gulch geocache. Sadly, this cache turned out to be another victim of the fires. The cache, all the cache contents, the surrounding plants and even part of the hillside itself are completely gone. I had hoped the cache survived, not for the container's sake; but instead, for the sake of the four Travel-Bugs within it. Unfortunately, that was not to be.

I have no choice but to mark all four TBs as missing and archive this geocache. Although this outcome is not the one I had hoped for, I am glad to finally confirm the fate of these now lost Travel Bugs.

On a more positive note, the surrounding area is already showing signs of rebirth. Small grasses, wild flowers and native chaparral are sprouting up everywhere... Nature amazes me!

Once the area has had some time to recover, I hope to place another Snork-a-rific geocache here. In the meantime, I see no reason to draw people to an area still struggling to recover. Besides, without any mature plants there really aren't too many places to hide anything anyway. At least not yet.

I am truly sorry for the loss of the Travel Bugs.

Our sincere THANKS to all the awesome geocachers who found this cache, I hope to challenge you again in the future...

THE MODERN, STONEAGE GEOCACHE...

On May 8, 2007, a brush fire erupted in Griffith Park scorching large areas of native vegetation and threatening the L.A. Zoo as well as surrounding homes and businesses. After the fire, numerous hiking trails we closed due to safety concerns. The trail closures have temporarily cut off all public access to this and numerous other nearby Geocaches. The status of these caches cannot be confirmed until the city once again permits public access to the trails in the fire damaged areas. The current status of the affected trails can be found at:

Although there are numerous possible routes to this cache, we recommend parking near the Merry-Go-Round in Griffith Park. Begin your prehistoric journey by following the suggested route to the historic "Henry's Trail" (GC483) cache. From there you will cross the bridge and continue up to Snorkasaurus Gulch. You should expect to experience a significant elevation change during your journey to Snorkasaurus Gulch. The cache elevation is approximately 1425 feet.

If the cache contains a disposable camera, please remember: take a picture, leave the camera.

DO NOT PLACE BATTERIES IN THIS CACHE!!!

This is a Travel-Bug friendly Geocache.
