This is meant to be Part THREE of a three part series. Mixing a local history lesson with your cache. If you walk the series in order, each will reveal a little more answering the question Why do all the streets on the south side of town join into one road to create the SCurves of Mt Prospect? This cache will introduce you to a little known park-like space to sit on a park bench and watch the sites.
Now the S-Curve leans to the left, where west Lincoln and South Elmhurst converge with Hwy 83 South. In just this block walk we have veered off Main Street and brought Elmhurst around which created a small park on the right of this second curve. It is passed by every day by dozens of school kids walking across Elmhurst at the cross walk from school, but is not part of the school grounds. It includes a garbage can, park bench, some trees and bushes, the stop light and cross walk, and part of the city’s management system.
This hide blends in with the landscape and it’s host perfectly. This is a public area backing up to houses right on the street. And the city is in on the hide.
HISTORY
So the rumor that Mr. William Busse founder orchestrated the S-Curves to route drivers past his businesses on Main street I find this to be true. Supported by the Plat of Dedication for Public Highway in Section 12. Township 41 North, Range 11 East Third Principal Meridian, in the Village of Mt. Prospect. Cook County Illinois, Recorder of Deeds, Plat 7675908 July 25, 1922 William Busse, Jr Notary Public
George Meier whos son marries Busses daughter and Owner of the land North of Route 83 and Fred Schafer Owner of the land South of the 83 S-Curve propose a new public highway on June 27, 1922. planned to S-Curve in front of the already planned . Mr Meier is the father in law to Mr Busses daughter.
The plat shows the plan to bring all roads together stream traffic through town and across the train tracks where Main Street will take it north. The plat details plans for the strip of Condos along the second curve on 83 / S Lincoln and the Meiers Subdivision layout. Denoting a special section called the owners subdivision land reserved for the first home to be built on the corner of the curve Lot 1 Block 3. Located on the corner of south Pine Street and the Lincoln / 83 merge. This plot of land was owned by newlyweds George Meire and Sophie Busse. Which was later sold to builder Alex Lonnquest the same builder of the Mt Prospect golf course, and in 1929 he built the Dutch Colonial home known as Pine Manor now a wedding chapel. The historic home on pine and lincoln has had many interesting residence but most famously from 1937 to 58 it was the home of William T Mott and Wife Grace, one son.
