US Presidential Series

♦♦♦Geocache is not at the published coordinates♦♦♦

Since the US Presidency office was established in 1789, 45 people have served as President. The first, George Washington, won a unanimous vote of the Electoral College. Grover Cleveland served two non-consecutive terms in office. William Henry Harrison spent the shortest time in office, dying 31 days after taking office in 1841. Franklin D. Roosevelt served the longest, over twelve years, before dying early in his fourth term in 1945.  FDR is the only US President to have served more than two terms. The 22nd Amendment was established for limiting Presidential terms to two terms, This was passed by Congress in 1947 and ratified by the states in 1951.

Inauguration day was originally on March 4, four months after Election Day, George Washington was inaugurated on April 30, 1789 and John Adams was inaugurated on March 4.  The last President to be inauguration on March 4 was FDR.  Each President starting with Harry Truman was inaugurated on January 20 as outlined by the Twentieth Amendment in 1933.

Of the individuals elected as US President, four died in office of natural causes (William Henry Harrison, Zachary Taylor, Warren G. Harding, and Franklin D. Roosevelt), four were assassinated (Abraham Lincoln, James A. Garfield, William McKinley, and John F. Kennedy), and one resigned (Richard Nixon).

George Washington was the only US President never to be affiliated with a political party.  Also there are only 5 Presidents with no prior elected office experience (Zachary Taylor, US Grant, Herbert Hoover, Dwight Eisenhower and Donald Trump).
