This cache is designed to be a directory of some of the features of Bargara. It is situated in a small park near the information boards at the entry to the CBD. These boards give some history and points of interest of the Burnett Shire which became part of Bundaberg Regional Council. You need to be standing facing the ocean to get the directions correct. Travel towards the ocean and come to the Esplanade. There is a pencil in the cache and room for small items.
At the Esplanade turn left for:-
a) Childrens turtle playground and small unpatrolled sandy beach.
b) Picnic tables, shelters and free BBQ's
c) Deck overlooking the ocean.
d) Memorial to airmen lost at sea off the coast. This is the venue for annual Anzac Day Dawn service.
e) Nielsen Park Beach ( about 1km ), home of Bundaberg Lifesavers. patrolled beach (see my Surf Patrol cache)
f) Display of historic photos and remains of original gateway to the park.
g) Fitness exercise park.
h) Skate bowl, tennis courts, children's playground, athletic field and entry to Turtle Walk track to Mon Repos with branch track to Barolin Environmental Reserve.
i) Neilsen Park caravan park and camp ground.
At the Esplanade turn right for:-
a) The Basin rock swimming hole built by Kanakas, toilets, covered picnic area with BBQ's, play ground and entry to patrolled Kellys Beach.Fish feeding at The Basin(take left exit off roundabout)
b) Golf club, Tavern, and Retirement Village. ( go straight through the roundabout)
c) Another smaller caravan park. ( go straight through the roundabout)
d) Boat ramp and large vehicle parking. Unpatrolled swimming beach, dogs on leads allowed.( before the roundabout)
