The location is the same as previous years, a very nice recreational facility located behind the Dumfries-Triangle Fire Station on Rte.1, north of the Quantico Marine Base main gate. It’s ours all day and it features a large covered pavilion, a built-in propane stocked grill, kid's play area, volleyball and basketball courts, electricity, a sound system, and indoor plumbing. There will be good food, games, door prizes, and music.
The listed coordinates are for the parking area. You need to enter from Old Triangle Road, which runs behind the fire station parallel to Rte. 1. From the south, get off 95 at exit 150, Triangle/Quantico and bear right on the ramp. Go through the intersection at Rte. 1 as if you’re heading to the base, and make the very next left onto Fuller Heights Rd. Then take the next left onto Old Triangle. The entrance will be on your left about a mile north. From the north, take exit 152A, Rte. 234 towards Dumfries. Turn right onto Rte. 1, left on Graham Park Rd, and right onto Old Triangle. Entrance will be on the right. A sign will be placed there to make it easier for you to find us.
We’d love to see lots of old and new friends, including members of other Geocaching clubs, visiting cachers, and any friends or family you care to bring. Kids and pets are welcome, and the entire area is fenced in so you don’t have to worry about them wandering off. You may arrive any time after 9 AM, with lunch served around noon. Meats for grilling, condiments, plates, napkins, eating utensils, and cups will be provided. Please bring along a dish to share…desserts, veggies, salads, snacks and such…and your beverage of choice. Please let us know what you’ll be bringing with your *Will Attend* log so we can keep track.
This event is rain or shine. The main pavillion is well sheltered, so we can still have lunch and a good time no matter what Mother Nature brings. A bookmark list of area caches will be posted to this page if you'd like to get in some hunting. Keep checking this listing for updates.
See ya’ there!
Update, 10/24/13: There will be a drawing for door prizes at some point in the afternoon. The prizes will be geocaching related items like unactivated TBs, bison tubes or other containers, and swag items. If you have anything to contribute please bring it along! Also, I've added a few of the newer area hides to the Bookmark list. That list is by no means comprehensive. There are lots of other good caches in the area.
