Geocache Description:

This Virtual Cache is named after the famous monument to the horse named 'Beware Chalk Pit'. It belonged to Paulet St John, the 3rd Earl of Bolingbroke. The horse carried its owner to a racing victory in 1734, just a year after it fell into a chalk pit during a fox-hunt.

The inscription on the plaque on the north wall reads:

"Underneath lies buried a horse, the property of Paulet St. John Esq, that in the month of September 1733 leaped into a chalk pit twenty-five feet deep a foxhunting with his master on his back and in October 1734 he won the Hunters Plate on Worthy Downs and was rode by his owner and was entered in the name of Beware Chalk Pit".

The all round views from the monument are impressive. The monument itself can be seen from far and wide, particularly when the sun reflects off the white walls.

How To Claim this Virtual Cache

To claim this Virtual Cache, there are TWO simple tasks.

1. The cacher has to go to the given coordinates and take a photo with the entrance to the monument in the background – there MUST be a unique photo for every cacher who claims this Virtual Cache, with either:

Each cacher claiming this Virtual as an individual ‘selfie’, with the entrance to monument as the background,

or...

...If the cacher does NOT want their face in the photo, either:

Each cacher claiming this Virtual as an individual ‘selfie’, with the entrance to the monument as the background, but with a piece of paper for example, over their face that has their cacher name AND the date AND time written on it (IF you are up for a bit of fun, strike a pose as if you are riding a horse).

Or...

A photo of the GPS device as used by each cacher who is claiming this Virtual, the GPS device recording the fact that they are at the coordinates, this device being the foreground of a photo with the entrance to the monument in the background.

2. The second task, at Waypoint Two, you will find a bench, you need the month and the year from the bench. Using that information send an email to: virtualMONTHYEAR@gmail.com. Include your caching name in the subject/title.

Your email may look like this: virtualfebruary1965@gmail.com. As this is an automated response you may need to check your junk box for the reply. DO NOT Include this answer in your log.

Any Logs that have either 1) no photo, or 2) photos that do not display either of the above criteria, 3) no message with the required information from Waypoint 2 will be deleted without notice. Screenshots of the locating icon at GZ will NOT be accepted.

Example of a permitted photo (selfie with a person)

Logs without a picture will be deleted.
