This cache is located on the grounds of Newport State Park. Entrance to the park requires a fee. The cache is small self-sealing container and the exact location of the cache requires some knowledge of the historic lumber community that once existed at Newport.

From the location of the cache you can spot the remains of one of Newport’s lumber piers. Only the pier’s stone footings remain and they can be seen just breaking the water’s surface. If you imagine you are back in time, the pier would have extended out in the lake and lumber schooners would have lined the pier to load lumber bound for Chicago and Milwaukee.
There are also many interesting plants and animals within Newport State Park, and several identification cards are located within the cache. We hope that you take time to fully experience the park after finding the cache.
This cache was placed as a partnership with Wisconsin Historical Society, Wisconsin Maritime Museum, Door County Maritime Museum, and the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute.
