Geocache Description:

Town park with a great view of an open grassy area owned by U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service for the protection of the habitat. Cache is not in the lands owned by the feds. Easy access, parking (N41.38.591; W074.11.997) and just a short walk to the cache.

The lands are bordered by Hoagerburgh Rd, Long Lane and Albany Post Rd in the town of Shawangunk (pronounced shawn-gum). The site and parking area are clearly marked. The area is the site of a former airfield (see website (visit link) owned by West Point. Lots of bird houses and habitat. Nice picnic spot complete with a table, path and shade tree. Bring your binoculars. To visit the nearby Shawangunk Grasslands managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service: from the parking lot take a left on Long Lane to left on Hoagerburgh Rd. Park in the designated area and take a walk on the nice flat paths. NOTE: no bicycles or pets, motorized vehicles or horses in the protected areas.
